Shark Point was named for the frequent sightings of leopard sharks (Stegostoma fasciatum) in the past. It is very rare to see the sharks these days due to overfishing. Known as Hin Mu Sang by locals, this dive site lies nearby the Anemone Reef and King Cruiser Wreck, and is made up of three pinnacles that lie in an almost north-to-south formation, with the axis slightly tilted to the east. They are located around 1,5 hour boat cruise from Chalong Bay, but only 20 min by speedboat from our dive centre!
This site has the most diversity of fish and corals among the 3 dive sites in the area. Each pinnacle has areas covered with striking purple and pink soft corals, sea fans ranging from 50 cm to as big as a person, as well as beds of table coral, staghorn coral and coral head. Pinnacle No.1 is the only one visible from the surface and has a small lighthouse on top.
The dive usually starts from one pinnacle and finishes at the next pinnacle, with the direction dependant on the current. Some species of marine life that inhabit the area are blue spotted stingrays, scorpionfish, lionfish, pufferfish, blue-ringed angelfish, snappers, groupers and a few types of eels.
This is fairly easy dive site as the depth ranges from shallow waters of 5-10m to 20-24m.
